Up 2-0 in the match and down 8-1 in the third set, there was no panic button-pushing by the seventh-ranked Cardinals.
No, instead, they pushed themselves to rally over the course of the set to win 25-20 and finish off a 3-0 sweep of the Navarro College Bulldogs in a Region XIV volleyball match in their final Cardinal Gym appearance of the season Thursday night.
The Cardinals were a 25-19, 25-15, 25-20 winner, improving to 23-6 on the season and 11-0 in conference. Navarro fell to 14-14 and 5-7.
The Cardinals have three regular season games remaining, all on the road. Saturday, they travel to Beeville to play Coastal Bend at 2 p.m. Next week, they are at Tyler on Tuesday and Panola on Thursday.
After dropping the first two sets, Navarro started strong in the third set, leading by seven. The Bulldogs were up 14-7, at which point the Cardinals mounted their comeback. Vitoria Gasparini helped trigger the surge at the service line and Bruna Nunes and Bianca Salvador led the attack effort at the net.
"We played combinations of different personnel, and I am very proud of the way we responded," said first-year head coach Paty Figueiredo. "Now, we need to go the road and finish the season and be ready for the regional tournament."
The regional tournament is Nov. 7-9 in Brenham at Blinn College.
