The 16th-ranked Lady Cardinals won for a 16th-straight time Friday afternoon at Wagstaff Gym in Tyler, racing away with a 90-70 Region XIV Conference victory against Tyler.
The win upped the Lady Cardinals' season record to 17-2. They are alone atop the conference standings with a 4-0 mark. Tyler dropped to 15-5 and 4-1.
The Lady Cardinals are scheduled to return to action Saturday at home against Angelina. Action is set to start at 5:30 p.m.
Lady Cardinal freshman Kalyse Buffin returned to her hometown and pumped in 21 points to lead five in double-digit scoring. Buffin hit 8-of-11 free throws and had four rebounds and three steals.
Also scoring in double figures were Malaya Jones with 16, Heaven Jordan 15 and Saliz Ward and Kenidi Glover 12 each. Ward also grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.
The Lady Cardinals were 20-of-31 from the free throw line. Tyler was 16-of-19.
After taking a 19-18 lead into the second quarter, the Lady Cardinals survived a wide-open second quarter, outscoring Tyler 27-25 for a 46-43 halftime lead. The third quarter was a completely different story, as the Lady Cardinals took control of the game with a 20-10 scoring advantage.
The Lady Cardinals are now 13-2 against Tyler in Precious Ivy's tenure at the helm. Ivy was an assistant for five season at Tyler from 2012-17.
