The 16th-ranked Lady Cardinals put on a defensive clinic Wednesday night at Cardinal Gym.
As a result, they won for a 14th-straight time, rolling to a 76-34 rout of defending Region XIV champion Kilgore in front of an energized and appreciative crowd.
The win improved the Lady Cardinals to 15-2 on the season and 2-0 in conference action. Kilgore stumbled to 8-10 and 0-2 marks.
The Lady Cardinals are scheduled to be on the road Saturday, going to Brenham to face Blinn (12-6, 2-0) in a 2 p.m. tipoff. The Lady Cardinals' next home game is scheduled Wednesday, Jan 21 vs. Coastal Bend at 5:30 p.m.
The score was tied 8-8 at the media timeout at the 4:40 mark of the opening quarter. At quarter's end, the Lady Cardinals owned a 15-8 lead and were on their way to building a 26-8 advantage before the Lady Rangers would score again at the 6:22 mark of the second quarter. The Lady Cardinals were up 35-20 at halftime.
All told, from the timeout on, the Lady Cardinals outscored Kilgore 68-26.
Nneoma Aliozor came off the bench to put in 14 points and lead a balanced Lady Cardinal scoring effort. Mylaya Jones tossed in 12 and Saliz Ward and Mylasia Smith finished with 11 each.
The 34 points was the fewest allowed to a conference opponent since a 60-34 win against Tyler in the 2021 regional tournament championship game.
