BUDKE/SERNA MAGIC: Lady Cards upset No. 3 Three Rivers

Stand by for a change in the NJCAA D1 women's basketball rankings.

The No. 21 Lady Cardinals are the reason behind the need for a reshuffling after a dominant 64-49 takedown of the third-ranked Three Rivers College Lady Raiders in the Budke/Serna Thanksgiving Classic Saturday afternoon at Cardinal Gym.

The win was the seventh straight for Coach Precious Ivy's squad, which improved to 8-2. Three Rivers, which owned a 72-66 homecourt win against the Lady Cardinals the opening week of the season, fell to 10-1.

One quarter into Saturday's game, Three Rivers was in control with an 18-15 lead. But the second quarter saw the Lady Cardinals catch fire and torch the Lady Raiders. The Lady Cardinals outscored Three Rivers 22-4 in the quarter, erasing a 28-24 halftime deficit and carrying a 46-32 lead into the final quarter.

Kenidi Glover came off the bench to lead the Lady Cardinals in the upset with 15 points.

Also scoring in double figures were Taylor Day-Davis with 13, Saliz Ward 12 and Malaya Jones 10. Nneoma Aliozor netted eight.

Khanyla Hooten had seven rebounds for the Lady Cardinals, coming up big during the run in the third quarter.

The Lady Cardinals turned in a near-perfect performance, turning the ball over just six times. Three Rivers had 19 turnovers.

The Lady Cardinals are scheduled to be at home Wednesday against Western Gulf. Action at Cardinal Gym is set to begin at 5 p.m.
