FIVE SPOT: No. 18 Lady Cardinals upset No. 4 Three Rivers

The 18th-ranked Lady Cardinals rallied from and eight-point deficit heading into the fourth quarter to pull off a 60-58 upset of fourth-ranked Three Rivers in the next-to-last game of the Budke/Serna Thanksgiving Classic Saturday afternoon at Cardinal Gym.

Nylia Wilkins, taking a pass from Kynnedi Davis near the free throw line, hit a running floater from mid-lane with four seconds left to give Coach Precious Ivy's squad a fifth straight win. It ran the Lady Cardinals' season record to 7-2.

The win also marked the second straight year the Lady Cardinals came from behind in the fourth quarter to knock off Three Rivers in the event. Last year, the Lady Cardinals roared back from being down 18 in the final period to force overtime and nab an 81-79 win.

The Lady Cardinals are scheduled to return to action the road Saturday,  playing at LSU-Eunice. Game time is 3 p.m.

Davis led the Lady Cardinals with 18 points.

Ariana Dyson had 11 points and 12 rebounds.

Wilkins finished with 10 points.

Three Rivers, now 8-2, led 28-27 at the half.

In their Budke/Serna opener, the Lady Cardinals rolled to an 84-53 win against Jones.

Gabby Morales led the way with 21 points, including five three-pointers. She also had a team-high 10 rebounds.

Monica Marsh hit four three-pointers on the way to a 16-point effort.

Mya Giles was also in double figures with 11 points.

The Lady Cardinals were ahead 49-25 at the half.
