EIGHT IS ENOUGH: Cardinals blank NE Texas, 8-0

The 10th-ranked Cardinal soccer team made short work of Northeast Texas Community College Tuesday afternoon, taking an 8-0 win in Mount Pleasant.

The win raised the Cardinals' season record to 7-1-6. They are 6-0-6 in conference. Northeast Texas fell to 3-8-1 and 2-8-1.

The Cardinals are scheduled to return to action Friday at Paris. Match time is 1:30 p.m.

Kate Garrett gave the Cardinals all they would need for the win at the five-minute mark, scoring off an assist by Olivia Bailey.

Angie Saade and Garrett scored two goals each to lead the Cardinals. Also scoring were Taryn Hafen, Evelin Amaya, Brissa Dominguez and Nancy Jacobo.

The Cardinal defense smothered the Eagles, allowing just three shots on goal. The Cardinals had 13.

Recording the shutout in a combined effort were goalies Nikia van Middendorp and Gio Brandao.

The Cardinals' next home match is Tuesday, Oct. 21 vs. No. 5 Navarro at 4 p.m.
