The 12th-ranked Cardinals battled third-ranked and unbeaten Navarro to a 1-1 tie in a big Region XIV Conference soccer showdown Tuesday afternoon in Corsicana.
After a scoreless first half, Navarro went on top with a goal 18 minutes in the second half. The Cardinals got the equalizer 10 minutes later on a goal by Elena Sugimoto. Kate Garrett had the assist as the Cardinals got their first non-loss to Navarro in the history of the program at the college.
The Cardinals saw their season record go to 5-1-5 with the tie. They are 4-0-5 in conference. Navarro is now 9-0-2 and 6-0-2.
Next up for the Cardinals is Jacksonville at The Pit next Tuesday (Oct. 7). Game time is 4 p.m.
Gio Brandao went the entire game in goal for the Cardinals, denying five Navarro shot attempts.
