Jimmy Elder, who has five NJCAA Division 3 national championships to his credit, did not have to wait long for his first win as head women's soccer coach at TVCC.
The Cardinals went on the attack from the get-go and presented Elder with a 5-0 win against Texas Southmost College in their season opener Friday afternoon at The Pit. It was also the opening game of the Region XIV Conference schedule.
The Cardinals are scheduled to continue conference action Wednesday with a trip to Lufkin to face Angelina College. Action is set to begin at 5 p.m.
The next match for the Cardinals is Tuesday, Sept. 17 against Jacksonville College. Action is set for a 5 p.m. start.
Four players scored for the Cardinals in the season-opening win, led by Anglina Saade with two. Scoring one each were Esveidy Fabila, Julianna Paz and Brisa Hernandez.
Lia Castaneda, Nancy Jacobo and Evelin Amaya each had an assist.
The Cardinals had nine shots on goal, led by Ellie Pace, Kristina Cromwell, Saade and Paz with two each.
