Maria Winn-Ratliff, widely known as Coach Winn, is entering her fifth season as the head softball coach at Trinity Valley Community College (TVCC) and was named Assistant Athletic Director in the fall of 2024. With a remarkable career record of 856-370-1, she is the third head coach in the history of the Cardinals’ softball program and one of the most accomplished coaches in NJCAA softball.

 TVCC Success (2021–Present)

Under Winn-Ratliff’s leadership, the Cardinals have experienced unprecedented success:

  • 2025 Season: TVCC posted a 50-14 record, setting a new program record for wins, winning a second consecutive conference title, and earning an at-large bid to the NJCAA National Tournament in Yuma, Arizona. The season also marked Winn-Ratliff’s 850th career win. She was named Region 14 North Coach of the Year. The Cardinals shattered offensive school records and earned numerous honors:
    • Miranda Pena – Region 14 North Pitcher of the Year
    • Mariah Debose – Rawlings Gold Glove (CF), NJCAA 3rd Team All-American, NFCA 1st Team All-American
    • Kiara Wiedenhaupt – NJCAA 2nd Team All-American
    • 6 Region 14 All-Conference selections
    • 5 Region 14 All-Region selections
    • 3 NFCA All-Region selections
    • Team GPA: 3.67
    • NFCA All Academic Team
  • 2024 Season: The Cardinals went 45-16, winning their first-ever conference title and breaking previous program win records. Coach Winn-Ratliff notched her 800th career win and was named Region 14 Coach of the Year.

    • 7 Region 14 All-Conference selections
    • 3 Region 14 All-Region selections

    • TVCC held the top GPA in NJCAA Softball (3.81) for a second straight year
    • NFCA All Academic Team
  • 2023 Season: TVCC went 33-29, qualifying for the Region XIV Tournament and tying a previous program record for wins.
    • 3 All-Conference and 2 All-Region selections
    • NJCAA Academic Team National Champion with a 3.82 GPA
    • NFCA All Academic Team
  • 2022 Season: In her debut season, the Cardinals finished 21-35, laying the groundwork for future success with 3 All-Conference and 2 All-Region players.

Prior Coaching Career

Before arriving at TVCC, Winn-Ratliff was head coach and athletic director at Galveston College and previously served as head coach at Tyler Junior College (2016–19), where she led the Apaches to:

  • 164-42 record
  • 3 NJCAA Tournament appearances
  • 3 Region 14 East Zone Championships (2017–19)
  • 1st Region 14 Tournament Title in school history (2019)
  •  

Her longest tenure came at Western Nebraska Community College (2004–16), where she posted a 535-218-1 record and:

  • Won 8 conference championships
  • Made 5 NJCAA Tournament appearances
  • Achieved 9 consecutive 40+ win seasons, including 4 consecutive 50+ win seasons
  •  

Winn-Ratliff also had a one-year stint as head coach at Louisiana Tech University and served as an assistant at Central Methodist University, Armstrong Atlantic State University, and Bemidji State University.
