POWER APLENTY: No. 7 Cardinals smash Tyler

Cardinal Power Plant was open for business Wednesday afternoon.

Using an explosive 37-hit attack, which featured six home runs and 19 overall extra-base hits, the seventh-ranked Cardinals overwhelmed Tyler for a doubleheader sweep in Region XIV Conference action in Tyler. The Cardinals won 16-8 and 12-7.

The wins improved the Cardinals to 30-4 on the season and kept them perfect in conference play at 4-0. Tyler dropped to  15-17 and 1-3.

The Cardinals are scheduled to return to action Wednesday in Corsicana against Navarro at 1 and 3:30 p.m. Navarro is 14-10 and 1-3.

The Cardinals are scheduled to be at home Sunday in a heavyweight non-conference twinbill against no. 5 McLennan (24-6). Action at Drumgoole Field at Cain Park is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.

GAME 1

Cardinals 16, Tyler 8

Clarissa Valdez smashed two home runs to help the Cardinals get past the Apaches in Game 1.

Valdez went 4-for-4 with four RBI and two runs scored. She also had a double.

Taylor Bilderback also went 4-for-5, driving in three runs and scoring four. She had a home run.

Alexis Ortis had a triple and double.

Allie Wainwright also had a home run in a three-RBI performance.

Amilee Stapp and Kenzie Hess also each had a double.

Picking up the win in the circle was Dominique Vargas. She went three-plus innings and recorded four strikeouts. Ella Lozano and Haylie Jamie also pitched in relief.

The Cardinals seized control of the game with an eight-run outburst in the fourth inning.

GAME 2

Cardinals 12, Apaches 7

After scoring two runs in the top of the seventh to extend the game, the Cardinals punched Tyler with five runs in the eighth to take the win.

Wainwright went 4-for-5, driving in three runs and scoring twice. She had a home run and double.

Stapp also slapped a home run and had a double. Stapp was perfect at the plate, going 3-for-3.

Kamryn Messick had one of the Cardinals' eight extra-base hits with a triple.

Sydney Murphy and Kylie Grafa also each had a double. Grafa drove in two runs.

Jaime, pitching in relief, was the winning pitcher. Valdez started, giving way to Georgia Tardiff, who was relieved by Makayla Castillo.

 

Tyler scored two in the bottom of the sixth inning to carry a 7-5 lead into the seventh.
