GETTING IT DONE: Cardinals take care of business

They took two different routes to get there, but they got there.

The ninth-ranked Cardinals swept a home doubleheader from Angelina College in action Wednesday afternoon at Drumgoole Field at Cain Park. The Cardinals won 11-6 and 11-3 to raise their record to 19-1.

The Cardinals and Angelina are scheduled to play against today in Lufkin. Twinbill action starts at 3 p.m.

The Cardinals are scheduled to return to action at home Saturday, facing fifth-ranked Grayson at 1 p.m. and 17th-ranked Seminole State at 6 p.m.

Angelina fell to 5-13 with the losses.

Here is a recap of Wednesday's pair of games:

GAME 1

Cardinals 11, Angelina 6

Angelina score four runs in the top of the first inning only to see the Cardinals make up the deficit and then some the rest of the way.

The Cardinals scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth to complete the comeback and deny the upset bid.

The Cardinals had 15 hits.

Jaeden Burnham went 4-for-4 at the plate, drive in three runs and score once. Mariah DeBose had a 3-for-5 showing. She drove in two runs.

Kiara Wiedenhaupt and Sidney Murphy had two hits each.

Haylie Jaime, who came on to relieve Miranda Pena in the circle in the first inning with no outs and the bases loaded, pitched the rest of the way and quieted Angelina. She scattered eight hits and struck out 10.

GAME 2

Cardinals 11, Angelina 3

The Cardinals combined to score all their runs in the third and fourth innings, putting up a six-spot in the fourth.

Alizah Fields, Allie Clair Jones, Wiedenhaupt and DeBose had two hits each to lead an 11-hit effort at the plate.

Jade McQueen and Wiedenhaupt drove in three runs each.

Pena went the distance in the circle, giving up seven hits and fanning six.
