The 15th-ranked Cardinals took sole possession of the Region XIV Conference East Zone lead Thursday night with a solid 89-81win on the road against Bossier Parish.
The win kept Coach Guy Furr's Cardinals unbeaten at 8-0 in conference. Riding a nine-game winning streak, the Cardinals are 17-2 on the season. Bossier Parish slipped to 14-4 and 7-1.
Wendell Mitchell paced the Cardinals with a double-double. Mitchell fired in 26 points and dished out 14 assists. He also had six rebounds and four steals. He had four three-pointers.
Lorenzo Phillips tossed in 23 points, hitting five three-pointers.
Also scoring in double figures for the Cardinals was Damari Parris with 19.
The Cardinals led throughout the game. They led 45-41 at the half.
The Cardinals were 10-of-16 from beyond the three-point arc and 13-of-17 from the free throw line.
Another tough test awaits the Cardinals at home Saturday against No. 24 Paris. The Dragons are 17-1 on the season and 7-1 in league play.
In honor of former longtime head coach Leon Spencer, the Cardinals will wear throwback Henderson County uniforms. The creation of a scholarship in Spencer's name will be announced at halftime.
