Cards Win Third Straight - Beat Panola

The Trinity Valley Community College Cardinals won a third straight game as they beat the Panola Ponies, 99-86 Wednesday at Cardinal Gym.

TVCC improved to 17-4 overall and 8-2 in Region XIV conference play under first-year coach Guy Furr.

The Cardinals return to action Saturday as they travel to Corsicana to face the Navarro College Bulldogs. The tip is scheduled for 4 p.m.

The Bulldogs are 10-9 overall and 3-6 in conference action.

Trinity Valley is off on Friday and returns to action Feb. 4 at Cardinal Gym against Tyler Junior College. The tip is scheduled for 4 p.m.

The TJC Apaches are leading the North Division with a record of 16-1 overall and 8-1 in conference play.

In the victory over Panola, Cardinal sophomore Hyron Edwards led the way with a game-high 26 points. He added three rebounds, five assists, two steals and one block.

Josh Stamps had 17 points, seven rebounds and two assists, while Ryan Preston had a double-double with 17 points, 10 rebounds, two assists and two steals.

Amaad Wainright added 16 points, four rebounds, nine assists, two steals and a block. Andres Ibarguen had nine points, 10 rebounds, one assist and one steal.

Cardinal freshman Jaime Echenique added six points, nine rebounds, three blocks and one assist and Jaquan Lightfoot had six points, six rebounds and two assists.

Brandon Holley had two points and two rebounds.

Panola had 19 points from Devyn Wilson to lead the Ponies.

Keondre Byers and Keith Hayes had 14 and Marlon Taylor and Tope Arikawe had 10 points each.

The Cardinals held a 40-39 lead at halftime and outscored Panola, 59-47, in the second half.
