BACK ON TRACK: Cardinals fly past Air Force Prep, 48-0

A 27-point first quarter fueled the Cardinals to a 48-0 rout of the Air Force Prep Huskies in non-conference football action Friday night at Bruce Field.

In their first home game in over a month, the Cardinals amassed 583 yards of offense behind sophomore quarterback Champ Harris, who started six games for Army a year ago. Harris completed 24-of-32 passes for 295 yards and one touchdown and ran the ball seven times for 42 yards and three scores.

The win evened the Cardinals' season record at 2-2. They are scheduled to return to SWJCFC action Saturday at home against Blinn. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m.

While the Cardinal offense was putting together its best performance of the season, the defense was showing out as well. The Cardinals recorded seven sacks, led by Jussiah Ali with three and Marcus Baysden and Colton Vatne with two each. In all, the Cardinals had 14 tackles for losses.

Perry Cole Jr. was the top tackler for the Cardinals with 10, including six solos. Noah Baker and Ali had nine each and Noah Flemmings eight.

Fourteen different receivers caught passes for the Cardinals. Jaquan Lowman was the leader with five for 73 yards. Germonie Davis pulled in four and Tyson Berry and Antony Shelton had three receptions each.

The Cardinals led 41-0 at the half.

In SWJCFC action Saturday, Cisco upset No. 5 Kilgore, 35-30, Blinn upended No. 9 Navarro, 44-43, and Tyler took care of NEO, 23-13.

This week, in addition to the TVCC-Blinn game, NMMI is at Tyler and Cisco is at NEO.
