Esports takes the center stage Monday at the Home of Champions.
That is when Diego Varela will attempt to become the fifth-year program's first-ever national champion.
Competing in EA FC 26 (commonly known as FIFA) competition, Varela is scheduled to take on Trinidad State at 5 p.m. in the national championship match.
Trinidad State was the national runner-up last season, having knocked TVCC out of the playoffs along the way, winning a best-of-three series. 2-1.
"Diego has made tremendous improvements since the fall, adding skills that have allowed him to dominate time of possession" TVCC Esports coach James Jone said. "The biggest improvement has been his patience and poise in pressure situations.
"It will be an even match and come down to who makes the least number of mistakes and who handles the pressure. Both are here for a reason and room for error is razor thin."
Jones said the title match is big for the program.
"This is our fifth year, and we have had a lot of success," Jones said. "We have been knocking on the door numerous times but just haven't been able to push through. We have an opportunity to kick the door down and take the program's first national title. I feel once that momentum gets going, more titles will follow. TVCC is already know in the NJCAA Esports world, but this would put some bright lights on it.
"Personally, I would be lying if I didn't say it would be a huge milestone. A lot of love and sacrificed time has been poured into this program. The goal is to see the athlete's hard work rewarded with the ultimate prize. At the end of the day, my accomplishments are based on how fulfilled each athlete feels at the end of their time at TVCC."
