GREAT START: Lady Cardinals prevail in five sets in season opener

Fighting back from a 2-1 deficit, the Trinity Valley Community College Lady Cardinals won a five-setter in their season opener Monday afternoon on the road against Wharton Junior College.

The Lady Cardinals won, 21-25, 25-23, 18-25, 25-18, 15-11.
 
"The girls came out and fought hard," Lady Cardinal head coach Tosha Spain said. "I was so impressed with how focused every player, whether they were on the court or sideline, was. It was a huge team win and everyone took part.
 

"It was a very good, intense game against a very good Wharton team. It was a great game to start the season."

The Lady Cardinals were 0-2 against Wharton, dropping 3-1 decisions in both.
 

The Lady Cardinals are scheduled to compete in the Vernon tournament this weekend. They open against North Lake at 1 p.m. Friday.
