Jaye Nayreau is in his first season as a women’s basketball coaching assistant for the Trinity Valley Community College Lady Cardinals Basketball program. His responsibilities will involve all aspects of recruiting, on-floor coaching, player and skill development, opposition scouting and film breakdown, team academic guidance, assisting in community service outreach, and Lady Cardinals Basketball Camps.
Nayreau comes to Trinity Valley after spending the previous two seasons coaching High School Boys’ Basketball at Osbourn Park in Manassas, VA. His duties included being the Head Coach for the Junior Varsity & Freshman Boys’ teams while also assisting the Varsity program in the day-to-day operations. As is evident with many other periods in his coaching career, Nayreau’s contributions to the overall success of the program was felt both on and off the floor.
Prior to his time at Osbourn Park High School, Nayreau spent 10 years coaching collegiate women’s basketball. Most recently, he was as Assistant Women’s Coach at Texas Southern University from 2013-2015. There, he served in the role of Recruiting Coordinator, overseeing the organization and execution of all student-athlete recruitment. His other duties included player development, opponent scouting, academic counseling, team travel and meals, and NCAA compliance liaison. The impact of his efforts led to the production of back to back post season appearances in the WNIT along with a SWAC conference championship.
"Jaye is a welcomed addition to our Cardinal family," commented Head Women’s Basketball Coach Gerald Ewing. "He brings a level of knowledge and experience that gives confidence to the standard of sustained excellence established here at TVCC. Not only is he a very resourceful recruiter and an effective coach, above all, he is an individual of high character…of which I am truly excited to have on board."
Preceding his days at both Texas Southern University and Osbourn Park High School, Nayreau established himself as a recruiter and player/skills developer. He made professional stops at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette (2010-2012), University of Southern Mississippi (2009-2010), and Stephen F. Austin State University (2007-2009). No stranger to Junior College life and basketball, Jaye began his coaching career as an assistant at Dodge City Community College (2005-2007). He transitioned into this role shortly after a year as the graduate assistant manager for the women’s basketball team at Saint Louis University (2004-2005).
Nayreau, a Texas native, received his Bachelor's degree in Kinesiology from Sam Houston State University in 2002. He would then go on to obtain a Master's in Sports Pedagogy/Psychology from Baylor University in 2004.
