SPLIT CITY: Cardinals, Vernon split doubleheader

The Cardinals made short work of Vernon College in Game 2 of a softball doubleheader Wednesday afternoon in Mesquite, winning 10-2 in five innings.

The win followed a 5-1 loss in Game 1.

The Cardinals are 9-7 on the season with the split.

Next up for the Cardinals is the Angelina Invite in Lufkin. They play Angelina at 1 p.m. Friday, followed by Grayson at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, they play Northeast Oklahoma at 2 p.m. and Angelina at 4:30 p.m.

In a seven-hit attack, the Cardinals led 1-0 after four innings.

Rawnie Weststrate led the Cardinals at the plate, going 2-for-3.

Working 5.2 innings in relief, Nicole Stuhr was tagged with the loss in the circle. She struck out four.

GAME 2

TVCC 10, Vernon 2

Yasmine Derbal had a home run and triple in a 2-for-3 plate performance to lead the Cardinals, who scored in every inning.

Krystal Anne Castaneda drove in three runs with a pair of doubles.

Emily Alvarez and Lena Sellam also had multiple hits.

The Cardinals had 12 hits.

Alessandra Borjas picked up the win in the circle, going the distance and giving up four hits and fanning three.
