Kayla Trekell has returned to the softball program at Trinity Valley Community College.
Trekell, who played for the Lady Cardinals in the 2016 and '17 seasons, joins the staff of co-head coaches Kathleen and James Rodriguez as a coaching assistant.
We are extremely excited about having Kayla as a part of our staff," Kathleen Rodriguez said. "As a coach, it is awesome to see your former players and follow their successes, but there is always something special about having them join you and have them come 'home.'"
Trekell, a graduate of Diboll High School, spent last season at University of Maryland Eastern Shore, where she played in 36 games, starting 33. In addition to patrolling the outfield, she also saw action in the circle in seven games, including one start.
As a Lady Cardinal, Trekell played in 27 games as a freshman, hitting .412, and 37 as a sophomore, scoring 16 runs and collecting 27 hits, including three doubles.
"The addition of Kayla will definitely make Cardinal softball better," Rodriguez said.
