10-22-18: Sports Notes

VOLLEYBALL

The 10th-ranked Lady Cardinals closed the regular season in style over the weekend in the Border Classic at Laredo College. They went a perfect 4-0 to improve to 22-4 going into the Region XIV Tournament, scheduled Nov. 2-4 at Lee College in Baytown.

The Lady Cardinals posted wins against Universidad of Regiomontana (3-0), Victoria (3-0), Coast Bend (3-0) and Laredo (3-2).

For a second straight year, the Lady Cardinals went unbeaten (22-0) in non-conference. They were 24-0 last year.

The Lady Cardinals won 17 matches by 3-0 scores this season, having won 18 a year ago.

The Lady Cardinals will be the No. 3 East seed at the regional tournament, playing the No. 2 South seed in the opening round. Laredo finished second in the South Zone with a 5-2 mark. Blinn won the zone with a 7-0 mark.

FOOTBALL

The Cardinals return to action Saturday at home to face Navarro College in the final game of the regular season. Kickoff at Bruce Field is set for 3 p.m.

The Cardinals are 4-4 on the year and 3-3 in SWJCFC action. Navarro is 5-3 and 3-3.

MOONLIGHT MADNESS

Moonlight Madness is scheduled Tuesday, Oct. 23, at Cardinal Gym. The event begins at 6:30 p.m. (doors open at 6 p.m.).

Come out and support the Cardinal and Lady Card basketball teams as the players are introduced.

The Cardettes and Cheer are also scheduled to perform.
