The re-opening of Cardinal Gym has been delayed until Wednesday, Oct. 17, Trinity Valley Community College announced today.
The seating portion of the renovation of the 51-year-old facility will be finished by the Oct. 1 deadline, but other aspects of the project are behind schedule, causing the delay.
"We regret having to delay the re-opening, but want the project to be completely finished before we hold events and show it off to our fans and the public," said Dr. Jay Kinzer, vice president of student services and athletic director. "We feel it will be worth the wait when they see the finished product."
The college had originally targeted the Lady Cardinal volleyball game vs. Panola College on Wednesday, Oct. 3, as the first event in the new-look facility. It will now be the volleyball game vs. Tyler Junior College on Oct. 17.
The Lady Cardinals will continue to play home games at Athens High School until the re-opening.
