BACK IN WIN COLUMN: Lady Cards throttle AC, 74-54

The 18th-ranked Lady Cards came alive in the second half Wednesday night at Cardinal Gym to pull away from Angelina College for a 74-54 Region XIV Conference victory.

After Angelina came back from an early 9-0 Lady Card lead to tie the score 30-30 at the half, Coach Gerald Ewing's squad hit its stride over the final two quarters. The Lady Cards outscored Angelina 24-10 in the third quarter to take control of the scoreboard.

The win hiked the Lady Cards' season record to 24-4. They are 14-4 in conference with two games remaining.

The Lady Cards have an open date Saturday and will return to action Wednesday, Feb. 28 against Tyler in a 5:30 p.m. tipoff at Cardinal Gym. The annual Play 4Kay game  will be webcast on the Cardinal Sports Network (

Mercedes Brooks paced the Lady Cards with 18 points, including a pair of three-pointers.

Tyasia Moore came off the bench to spark the Lady Cards in the second half. She scored 14 points (12 in the second half) and pulled rebound after rebound.

Michal Miller and Rodrea Echols scored 11 points and Arleighshya McElroy added 10.
