VOLLEYBALL

The Lady Cardinals are scheduled to open the ninth season in school history Wednesday against Blinn at 6 p.m. With renovations/improvements at Cardinal Gym under way, the home match will be played at the new Athens High School sports arena. All home matches before Oct. 1 will be played there.

The Lady Cardinals enter the season ranked No. 19, which marks the first time in school history to be ranked in the NJCAA's preseason poll. They are coming off a 24-4 campaign in 2017, the four losses representing the fewest in a season in school history.

After participating in the Midland Classic this weekend, the Lady Cardinals are scheduled to be at home again Monday, Aug. 27, against Temple. Action at AHS begins at 6 p.m.

Admission to all home games are free.

FOOTBALL

The No. 7 Cardinals are scheduled to host No. 4 Snow College in the 7th annual Battle In The Valley, sponsored by Virtual Communication Specialists. Game time at Bruce Field is 7 p.m.

The Cardinals are coming off a 9-3 season and have appeared in 62 straight NJCAA polls, including the last 23 in the Top 10.

Saturday's game will mark the TVCC head coaching debut of Sherard Poteete, who previously was offensive coordinator (2010-12, 2016-17).

The Cardinals are schedule to kick off SWJCFC action next week at New Mexico Military Institute. They return home in two weeks on Saturday, Sept. 8, to face Tyler at 7 p.m.
